Mission Statement
To establish and maintain, through public and private partnerships, a world-class STEM Education Center that provides a full range of accredited instructional programs for pre-service and in-service K-12 teachers and students to enable year-round professional development that will ensure effective instruction in science, technology, engineering and math that keeps pace with technological advances in Silicon Valley.
Strategic Objectives
- By 2020, increase by 50% the number of teachers who participate in year-round SJSU STEM education professional development opportunities.
- By 2020, increase by 50% the number of teachers in high-need schools who have participated in SJSU STEM education professional development opportunities.
- By 2015, create ways for pre-service teachers to participate in STEM professional development summer programs.
- By 2013, recruit participants in academically oriented, pre-collegiate programs serving first-generation to college and low-income students, such as Upward Bound and California Mini-Corps, to engage in STEM education academic support courses during their summer programs.
- By 2016, increase by 25% the participation rate of pre-college program participants in STEM summer academies or academic support courses.
- By 2020, increase by 30% the number of participants in SJSU’s pre-college programs who attend college and choose to major in STEM.
